Gujarat to celebrate 2006 as Tourism Year

Gujarat will celebrate 2006 as the Year of Tourism, aiming to generate promote the state as a premier tourist destination. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating the legendary Tarnetar fair near Thangadh town of in Surendranagar district, about 190 km from here. While flagging off the "rural Olympics" games at the fair, Modi emphasised the need to promote the Indian traditional sports on a wider scale. More than 3000 youngsters from across the state were participating in the games organised by the state's sports authorities.
