IIM -A Prof on solar desalination project
Tuesday, November 25, 2008
An IIM proffessor from Ahmedabad is all set to find on a solution to desalinate water using solar energy. The method if successful could benefit the farmer communities in Gujarat with an effective irrigation technique especially for those living in the dry and remote regions near the sea where saline levels are very high. The professor along with his team is on a desalination project that would remain cost effective and could produce fresh water from brackish water.
"We have been successful in producing drinking water with the solar energy powered desalination system. Now we are working on a prototype, which can process large quantity of brackish water that can be used for agriculture," says the professor. --MP
