Heaps of bio-Medical waste seized

Tonnes of bio medical waste has been recovered from hospitals in Ahmedabad and Surat which are then transferred to warehouses and traded back to hospitals with the help of dealers.
With Gujarat still gripping from the outbreak of the deadly Hepatitis B, the incident has thrown light to the illegal trade of medical equipments including syringes and needles in the medical industry. Police claims the hands of dealers behind these medical waste trading and is probing on those traders involved. --MP

Six teachers were awarded life term for gang raping a 19 year old student in a government run Primary Teachers Training College in Patan. The girl who comes from a poor family was a resident student of the college and was subjected to repeated sexual assault by the teachers in Feb 2008. The incident triggered wide protests from various quarters across the State.
Now after one year of the case, the accused are pronounced guilty by the court and also fined Rs 4000 on each of the culprits. The court also directed them to pay Rs 10000 each as compensation to the victim. --MP
Mallya gets back Gandhi items for $1.8m

The much controversial auction sale of the Mahatma Gandhi's items by the US based auction house was finally saved by an Indian businessman.
The owner of the collections though made a final minute attempt to stall the auction, the auction house proceeded with it on Thursday. And it took a final twist with the Bangalore based liquor baron Vijay Mallya offering to acquire the items at a whopping $1.8 million. Mallya is the Chairman of the United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines. Toni Bedi who won the bid on behalf of Mallya said that Mallya intended to return the Gandhi personal belongings which include wire-rim eyeglasses, a pair of leather sandals, a pocket watch, a plate and the brass bowl to thes Indian government. --MP

Mahatma Gandhi's personal items including his metal rimmed round glasses will go for auction in New york soon.
The move by the US based auction house has however triggered a controversial debate in India, with the Indian government also trying their best to get back Mahatma's rare collections. Gandhi's other belongings going on for auction are a pair of leather sandals, a Zenith pocket watch, and a brass bowl and plate.
The collector says that he had collected these rare belongings over a number of years from various sources such as dealers, family members and auctions. --MP
